Hello everyone and welcome to the Road to Badab. This blog has been created in an effort to keep me on track with painting models for my Astral Claws and to keep my group interested and excited for our Badab themed Apocalypse game coming in April 2012.

Dire News......
As Imperial forces are being mustered to continue the pursuit of the foul Tyrant of Badab, a horrendous rumor has spread about one of the Emperor's loyal Chapters.
The entire Fire Hawks chapter, who took massive casualties in the assault on the Traitor's fortress, have not emerged from the warp after a routine jump. Not one of the numerous ships that were carrying the assembled might of the chapter have arrived at their rendezvous at the scheduled time and place.
Only time will tell how this will affect the battle plans of the Loyalist forces as they prepare the final attack on the Traitor as he flees once again.
Stay tuned for October.

The War on Badab - Teaser
The battle on Badab is over, Lugft Huron escaped the grasp of the Loyalist forces. This is just a quick teaser video I put together to show some of the images I took. There will be a longer video and an image gallery coming in the future going over the battle that took place on Badab.

Final update for the Tyrants Legion
Last post from the Tyrants Legion. 3 more tanks got camo tonight, not finished, but I'm satisfied with the amount I completed. This puts me at 3 hellhounds, 2 basilisks, and one leman russ with camo scheme done, ready for details and touchups.
Final Astral Claws update before the game
This will be my last post of painted models before the game but I wanted to show off a couple of the things I've completed recently. Enjoy!

Fire Hawks Final Update, T Minus 36 Hours
Here is my last update before the trip to Madison fir the assault on the Traitor's Fortress. Didn't finish as much as I hoped due to shopping for a new car, which I did purchase this week.
This is how the 8th Company will look as the footslogging Marines embark on their Drop Pods, the Assault Marines fuel up their jump packs, and the Terminators home in on transponder signals.
I hid the less painted models behind the ones that are finished, hopefully you don't notice!

Airbrushed Hellhounds
I have to say, for a test with the airbrush / I want some tanks to be painted, these turned out pretty good.
The colors are a little light for what I wanted, but really, I'm going to wash/detail them anyways so I'll hold off until I get to that point. I'm going to try and get this scheme done on the 2 basilisks I have in my list for this weekend, this would make 6 tanks out of 10 'painted'! I'm super pleased with having this much progress done on an army and it seems everyone else feels much the same, what a difference it makes.
Galin's Salamanders
Galin had posted an in progress shot of his Salamanders on Facebook a little bit ago. I wanted to share it here as well. Enjoy!
Palace of Thorns
Here are the outer walls of the Palace of Thorns. Will the loyalists be able to breach them or will Huron succeed in holding Badab? These walls were constructed and painted by Piper and Galin. Thanks guys!
Badab game is this Saturday!
So the day is at last approaching. I've painted more miniatures for my Astral Claws army than I have for any army ever! Hopefully this will set a new precedent for me going forward with my miniatures. Playing with fully painted armies is, as any wargamer can tell you, extremely satisfying. I've got a few pictures here from my work station over the weekend. I'll try to get some better pictures of the other stuff I've finished later this week. Plus we'll be sure to take plenty of pictures during the game this weekend. I hope you'll all enjoy!

Tyrants Legion!
So, my shots aren't as spectacular, but I did manage to get a lot of painting done. There is still basing to be done, matte finish to be applied to many, but on the table there are 120+ figures with paint on them which makes it officially the largest quantity of anything I've ever painted. I even managed to get an airbrush test in on a hellhound (back right of picture). If I get the time this week, a few more tanks will get the 2 color camo base done to them. Needless to say, I'm close to having a largely painted army and yet...there are still so many more to go! =)

Fire Hawks Command Squad
Here is the Command Squad that was mentioned last night:
They are dipped, and dry for about a day. I touched up a few spots and added a few details that wouldn't have shown well if I had painted them before the dip.

Picture-less boring update
Last Drop Pod assembled and primed.
Last unpainted Sternguard Squad primed.
Progress made on partially painted Assault Squad.
Command Squad painted and dipped, under fans drying right now. Edit: see here for update: http://roadtobadab.blogspot.com/2012/03/fire-hawks-command-squad.html
27 models finished. I hope to have another 15 finished before the big day (the above mentioned Assault Squad and my Terminator Squad). That leaves 37 models, and 3 Drop Pods. As bad as I feel to say those won't be done, my goal for those 37 models is to have a base coat of Mechrite Red, shoulder pads Iyanden Darksun, weapons and backpacks Boltgun Metal, and the Drop Pods to have their 3 base coats of the same three colors finished. While they won't be pretty to look at, they will add some color to the table.

Arch-Centurion Carnac Commodus WIP
Here's a nearly finished Arch-Centurion Carnac Commodus. There are some touch-ups and details left to do, but he's mostly done! Anyone want to paint 9 tanks? =)

Another WIP shot
Im part way through putting transfers on, and man do these make a big difference, I'm really liking the look even more as I continue with this. Also, a pretty swell revelation, I actually painted enough IG already, i was convinced I did not, but i have the 65 IG I need, all that's left is 6 heavy flamers + 3 heavy weapons teams and tanks, no problem, right?
...
Once I get some of the dipping done, I'll post a large group shot.
